Well, I forgot to tell you two weeks ago(whoops!), but I’m staying here in Jyväskylä! At least until March 15! And we got news this week that Sister Saarinen (waiting on her visa to go to St. George for her mission) will be staying with us until March 8th at least. We’re so excited! We weren’t ready to let her go quite yet!
Wow! This week we had the amazing opportunity of joining live with 75,000 missionaries around the world to listen to prophets, seers, and revelators tell us the revelation meant for us today as missionaries. It was a two hour broadcast. Elder Nielson of the Seventy who visited Finland last year (before I came) even gave a little shout out to the missionaries serving in Helsinki, Finland watching live at 7 pm!
I was inspired by this message.
A quick story:
We’ve found many new investigators recently, but we’re not sure if they truly understand why we’re here. We had a second lesson with this particular young man. We really wanted to help him understand who we were so we talked about prayer in the first meeting. It went well generally, but he said he was also meeting with Jehovah’s Witnesses and seemed pretty closed.
Well, I’ve been striving to develop more charity in my life and I prayed really hard to have this charity for this young man. When we went in, the lights were dark and it seemed like a bit of a creepy place (don’t worry, Mom! We had a member with us!) We asked him to turn the lights on so we could see better. He complied. Whew. I felt better. I focused really strongly on trying to figure out what he needed to hear. (Part of the Missinary Meeting was on how the missionary who is not talking can receive revelation if they are really intune with the Spirit and focused in on the investigator.)
It’s frustrating sometimes when people aren’t ready and I asked Sister Jordan why I felt like I should focus so much on pray instead of the lesson plan. She told me that if we hadn’t helped him to see why we were really there he might have accepted another appointment, but he wouldnt have been progressing. She said, even though it’s tough to lose people, we can’t be afraid of following the Spirit or sharing the truth of our message (carefully crafted to help the person). She said, Sister Adams, it felt right and you were probably prompted to say it so that we could find someone else who is ready. 🙂
